SB RESOLUTION NO. 198 S. 2002
RESOLUTION TO REMOVE THE HYPHEN FROM THE WORD "LAWA-AN” IN "LAWA-AN, EASTERN SAMAR”
WHEREAS, in the proper use of punctuation marks, the name LAWAAN is a single word which does not require a hyphen between its adjoining "A's" component as customarily observed, considering the following principles in the use of hyphen: a.it is primarily used to show word division occuring at the end of the line (e.g. resi-dent. the letters "dent" should appear in the next line.; b. it separates the parts of the compound words (e.g. ninety-nine); and c. it is used between two or more words that serve as a single adjective preceeding a noun (e.g. one-man office, well-to-do person).
NOW, THEREFORE, on joint motion of the Council which was duly seconded in masse,
BE IT RESOLVED, AS THIS COUNCIL HEREBY RESOLVES, to remove the hyphen from the word "Lawa-an" in "Lawa-an, Eastern Samar".
BE IT RESOLVED FURTHER, to forward this resolution to the offices/agencies concerned for their information, reference, guidance and implementation.
UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED: November 20, 2002, at Lawaan, Eastern Samar, PHILIPPINES
